Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga) has intensified preparations for its annual Wiki ya Wananchi (Citizens’ Week) celebrations, taking the campaign to Bukombe as the club seeks to strengthen its connection with supporters ahead of the August 9 grand finale at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The week-long campaign officially began in Ushirombo before moving to Bukombe, where Yanga players are scheduled to conduct an open training session at the newly inaugurated Bukombe Stadium.
The event is expected to give supporters in the Lake Zone an opportunity to engage with the team as preparations continue for the 2026/27 season.
Yanga Head of Information and Communications, Ally Kamwe, urged supporters and members to purchase tickets early, warning that demand is expected to exceed the available capacity at Uhuru Stadium.
Kamwe said previous editions of Wiki ya Wananchi attracted more than 60,000 fans, while the stadium can accommodate only about 20,000 spectators.
“Wiki ya Wananchi has continued to grow every year, attracting more than 60,000 people. We are encouraging every supporter and member to secure their ticket early to avoid missing out because stadium capacity is limited,” he said.
He said preparations for the event have been completed, with tickets already being purchased in large numbers.
Kamwe said this year’s celebration will come shortly after the successful conclusion of the club’s General Meeting and elections, calling on members to remain united and focus on building a stronger Yanga in the coming four years.
“The elections are behind us. Our focus now is to continue developing the club and achieving our objectives together as one family,” he said.
He added that Wiki ya Wananchi will feature several community initiatives, including a nationwide blood donation campaign on Thursday, which will begin at Yanga headquarters before extending to other areas.
On Friday, club leaders, players and supporters will visit hospitals and participate in special prayers as part of preparations for the new football season.
Meanwhile, Kamwe said Yanga is continuing with the recruitment of international players as the club seeks to complete its squad for the 2026/27 campaign, while the signing of local players has already been concluded.
He also announced that the club’s new season jerseys are expected to be unveiled within two days, encouraging supporters to be ready to purchase the official kits once they are released.
A representative of Yanga’s main sponsor, SportPesa, said the company has prepared various campaigns aimed at rewarding supporters through social media promotions and other activities.
He said SportPesa will also organise a special caravan visiting Yanga branches across the country to encourage ticket purchases, membership registration and participation in Wiki ya Wananchi activities.
CRDB Bank Dar es Salaam Regional Manager, Muhumuliza Buberwa, congratulated Yanga’s newly elected leaders and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting the club’s membership growth initiatives.
He said official membership cards would enable supporters to pay monthly contributions conveniently, access financial services and benefit from life insurance coverage of up to Sh1 million in the event of bereavement.
The Wiki ya Wananchi celebrations are expected to provide a platform for Yanga to unveil its plans for the new season, introduce players and strengthen engagement with its growing fan base.
